Julian Sedgwick is the author of six books for children, and co-author of the graphic novelDark Satanic Mills and C arnegie-shortlisted novel Voyages in the Underworld of Orpheus
Black.
On the way to realising his childhood ambition to write, Julian read C hinese Studies and
Philosophy at C ambridge, before working as a bookseller, painter, researcher and script
developer for film and TV, and shiatsu therapist.
The first book in his Mysterium trilogy - The Black Dragon - was published by Hodder
C hildren's Books in 2013 and won the Rotherham C hildren's Book Award. Following
completion of the Mysterium, he turned to his fascination with East Asia and set his Ghosts
of Shanghai trilogy in war-torn, ghost ridden 1920s C hina.
Julian lives near Ely, C ambridgeshire is married and has two grown-up sons. He still
combines writing with his work as a therapist. In his spare time he draws as much as
possible, juggles torches and knives, tries his best to learn Japanese - and waits for the
weather to get cold enough to go fen skating.
