In due course he became a prolific contributor to philosophical research and served as president of several major philosophical societies, including the American Philosophical Association, the American Catholic Philosophical Association, the Metaphysical Society of America, and the American Leibniz Society. The present book gives a detailed account of his personal development and professional dealings throughout these endeavors.

Rescher, NicholasNICHOLAS RESCHER is a much-published philosopher, has been awarded the Aquinas Medal of the American Catholic Philosophical Association, the Helmholtz Medal of the Berlin/Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. Honorary degrees have been awarded to him by eight universities on three continents.
