[Exemption From Religious Education]In some federal states more than a quarter of the students exempt themselves from religious education. This raises the question for the reasons of exemption. The present publication explores this question by means of an empirical survey of teachers and students. The results show that the students who exempt themselves do so because they don't find the content of teaching plausible for their view of life. It is surprising that the teachers tend to suppose external factors as for instance the relationship with the teachers and difficulties with higher learning standards.

Gennerich, CarstenCarsten Gennerich, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1969, studierte Theologie und Psychologie in Göttingen. Als Professor für Religions- und Gemeindepädagogik unterrichtet und forscht er an der Ev. Hochschule Darmstadt. Gennerich ist Mitglied der GwR (Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Religionspädagogik) und des ISREV (International Seminar on Religious Education and Values). Zimmermann, Mirjam
Mirjam Zimmermann, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1969, studierte Theologie, Germanistik und Politikwissenschaft in Bamberg, Bonn, Santiago de Chile und Heidelberg. Sie ist Lehrerin für Deutsch/DaF und Evangelische Religion, Fachleiterin für Pädagogik und Deutsch. Seit 2011 ist sie als Professorin an der Universität Siegen tätig. Sie ist Mitglied der GwR (Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Religionspädagogik) sowie Extern reserch collaborator of the Research Unit of the Faculty of Theology of the North-West University/Potchefstroom (Südafrika).
