This book looks at the development of the English language in the three children from a family of Hungarian/Irish parentage. The books looks at a number of areas including the lingustics involved in code-switching and the change in languages as dependent in different social circumstances. Althought the work is academic in nature, the book also contains numerous examples of wit from the children involved, which, unlike most academic works, will bring a smile to your face. The author, Katalin McNamara spent a lot of time with the children (she is their mother) and saw them react in normal, everyday circumstances around the people they are most comfortable with - family and friends. The book hopes to help families who live in a situation where the parents speak two different languages and to guide them a little in helping them teach their children how to learn and use both languages effectively.
