This book seeks to fill an identified gap in the literature by describing the generic and professional health care beliefs, expressions, and practices of Syrian Muslims living in the Midwestern United States discovered through an ethnonursing study. It also presents a discussion of the influence of worldview, cultural context, technological, religious, political, educational, and economical factors on the folk care beliefs and practices of this population. The Culture Care Theory was used as an orientational framework for this research. Extensive analysis of audio taped interviews and the observations and participation experiences of the researcher revealed numerous data categories and fourteen patterns from which four main themes emerged. The findings from this study may assist nurses and other health care providers worldwide in the identification and formulation of care actions and decisions that provide conservative Syrian Muslims with culturally congruent care. Implications for nursing theory, education, practice, and research are offered as well as considerations for future research.
