International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs) have strongly been recognized as key third sector actors on the landscapes of development globally as part of neo-liberal policy. As INGOs emerged in development all over Africa, they inevitably entered Kenya and became part of the development agenda from early 1990s. HIV/AIDS has remained a major setback to development in many countries with Kenya among those severely affected and INGOs are playing a critical role in helping states deal with these challenges. However there is little empirical evidence on the role of INGOs in development through tackling HIV problems which might affect future funding decisions or their operations. Therefore in order to bridge the existing knowledge gap, this book assesses the role of INGOs in development with specific reference to World Vision HIV/AIDS programmes. The burden of HIV was higher in Tinderet Sub-County more than other areas in Kenya and this informed the intervention of World Vision. World Vision was chosen for this study because of their longstanding history of supporting development initiatives among poor communities globally.
