This book deals with novel methodology for chemoselective dehydrogenation, aromatization, deallyalation, No deallylation with molecular iodine in DMSO and their utility is extended to the synthesis of beta-carboline alkaloids and biologically active beta-carboline and indazole heterocycles. Aromatic-beta-carboline alkaloids are composed of nitrogen-containing heterocycles and represent a tricyclic pyrido[3,4-b]indole ring system.1 They are present in a large number of natural products like marine sponges and territorial plants2 as well as in as normal constituents of human tissues and body fluids3. The beta-carboline moiety is a very important synthetic intermediate for a variety of pharmaceutically important natural products and drug molecules.
