Dr. Musthafa Mohamed Essa, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Nutrition at Sultan Qaboos University, Oman and holding visiting A/Prof position in Neuropharmacology group, ASAM, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. He is an Editor-in-Chief for International Journal of Nutrition, Pharmacology, Neurological Diseases published by Wolters & Kluwer, USA. He is also acting as an Associate Editor for BMC complementary and alternative medicine and Editor for Frontiers in Biosciences. Dr. Essa is involved in the editorial / reviewer board of various well known journals such as Frontiers in Neurology, Biochemie, PLOS one, etc. Dr. Essa is conducting research on the effect of dietary supplementation of natural products on Neurodegenerative diseases. He is an expert in the field of Nutritional Neuroscience/ Neuropharmacology and published more than 120 papers, 46 book chapters and 11 books. He has strong international collaborations with institutes in USA, Australia, Qatar, and India. Dr. Essa is recipient for so many awards from local and international bodies. In 2017, July his book titled "Food and Parkinson's disease" was awarded as best book in the world by GOURMAND Cook Book Awards. In 2015, one of his book titled "Food and Brain health" was awarded as best book in the World by GOURMAND Cook Book Awards and same book was awarded best in the best in the world of past 20 years of awards by GOURMAND Cook Book Awards. In 2015 and 2016, Dr. Essa received the National Research Award under health sector from The Research Council, Oman. In 2013 and 2017, he was awarded as Distinguished Researcher in Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. One of his scientific images won the Best of the Show, Best of overall in all categories and individual as well in the "Science of Art- Photo Contest" in ISN-ASN International meeting in Mexico,2013. Further, in 2010, Dr. Essa received the Professional from Developing Country Award from IMFAR, USA. In 2009 and he was awarded ASN Young Investigator Educational Enhancement Award (ASN-YIEE-2009).
He has over 15 years of research and teaching experience and till now he has received many research grants from local and international agencies in the area of Neuropharmacology and nutritional neurosciences (approximately 1.31 million USD). He has guided 3 PhD students and 9 master students. Currently he is guiding 2 PhD students in the area of Nutritional Neuroscience.
Dr. M. Walid Qoronfleh, Ph.D., MBA, is currently the Director of Healthcare Research and Policy at Qatar Foundation-World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH). Dr. Qoronfleh leads the WISH Doha-based research unit which is engaged in research areas that are of immediate global and local healthcare relevance to Qatar. The research is undertaken with a view to positively impacting health policy. These areas include autism, mental health, dementia, patient safety, non-communicable diseases (cancer, diabetes & obesity), precision medicine and bioethics.
Immediately prior to WISH, Walid was the Biotechnology Development Director at Hamad Bin Khalifa University - Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (HBKU-QBRI). Dr. Qoronfleh has over 20 years of scientific, technology, business, and commercial experience. He has held several senior management and executive positions with increasing responsibilities at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Sanofi, US National Institutes of Health-National Cancer Institute (NIH-NCI), ThermoFisher, NextGen Sciences (VP, Personalized Medicine) and SDIX (Executive Director, Diagnostics business, Nasdaq: SDIX) and Executive Director & PI at The University of Michigan - Ann Arbor. Dr. Qoronfleh has been awarded two pioneering grants. As a PI at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor he was awarded $3.2M to build a state-wide medical researchinfrastructure
