It was Philipp Jacob Spener who had already understood theology as a "habitus practicus".
The present volume documents instructions, critique, proposals for reform and other important sources concerning the study of theology that cover a broad temporal and contentual range. Besides Johann Arndt, Philipp Jacob Spener, August Hermann Francke also representatives of the "second generatio" of pietism are documented (J. J. Rambach, J. A. Bengel, S. Gmehlin, J. F. Haug, J. H. Jung-Stilling).
