Rather than emphasising the need to reduce their occurrence, this study provides additional insight that shows how premature endings can be a 'restorative' experience, for therapists who process the ending openly and un-defensively. The clinical implications highlight an ongoing debate to ensure we do not practice in isolation, but draw widely on our support networks and own self-management techniques.
