The book at hand takes a critical view on the increasing technology penetration of our everyday life. Often, it is not clearwhat these technologies are good for and what value they bring to our life. Especially in Ubiquitous Computing (UbiComp) - a young research discipline investigating the ubiquity of computing technology in our everyday life - it is criticized that research and development is too technology-oriented. A more balanced view between technology and application orientation is seen as necessityto raise the impact of UbiComp results. The author argues that an amplification of Requirements Engineering (RE) within UbiComp research represents a suitable means to equilibrate this imbalance. It is demonstrated that the application of RE strengthens application orientation, and that RE as mediator discipline between application-oriented and technology-oriented research efforts helps to foster innovations in UbiComp. The book is intended forresearchers and practitioners in thearea of UbiComp as well as other technology-oriented research disciplines and companies that are aiming at developing innovative technologies.
