Synthesis will supplement analysis as a major thrust in our technological society. Synthesis requires a vision to project into the future, and demands a more holistic approach. Synthesis can help reduce the "two cultures" syndrome. Both natural and unnatural or human-made systems, involving the arts, sciences, the professions, and the applied fields, are discussed, as well as the philosophy of Plato, Aristotle, Kant, and many other recognized philosophers.
Autoren-Porträt von Carl W. Hall
The Author: Carl W. Hall, Ph.D., P.E., is a consultant in Arlington, VA. He retired from the National Science Foundation in 1990 and was Dean of Engineering at Washington State University from 1970-1982. He has served as an officer of several engineering and science organizations and is member of the National Academy of Engineering. He has degrees from Ohio State University, University of Delaware, and Michigan State University, and participated in the SMG Program at Harvard University. Dr. Hall has taught the university-wide honors course at Washington State University on Technology & Society.
