The second International Symposium on Electronic Commerce was held in Hong Kong, April 2001, in conjunction with the fourth International Workshop on the Technological Challenges of Electronic Commerce. This symposium belongs to the- commerce conference series started in 1998 in Toronto, Canada. Since then, every year, there has been an international workshop on the technological challenges of electronic commerce, and every other year, in conjunction with the workshop, an international symposium on electronic commerce is held. The following workshops have been held so far. - The first International Workshop on the Technological Challenges of Electronic Commerce was held in September 1998, in Toronto, Canada. - The second International Workshop on the Technological Challenges of Electronic Commerce was held in May 1999, in Beijing, China. - The third International Workshop on the Technological Challenges of Electronic Commerce was held in June 2000, in Waterloo, Canada - The fourth International Workshop on the Technological Challenges of Electronic Commerce was held in April 2001, in Hong Kong. The first International Symposium on Electronic Commerce was held in Beijing, China, May 1999, in conjunction with the second International Workshop on the Technological Challenges of Electronic Commerce.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Electronic Commerce, ISEC 2001, held in Hong Kong, China in April 2001.
The eight revised full papers presented together with four short papers and two survey papers were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. The book offers topical sections on secure payment, trust and security, tools for e-commerce applications, e-commerce frameworks and systems, performance and QoS, and e-commerce surveys.

Autoren-Porträt
Dr. Weidong Kou is a Chief Architect and a Senior Manager of IBM Greater China Group, and an Adjunct Professor of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He was a Dean of the School of Computer Science at Xidian University, a Director of the Chinese Key Laboratory on Integrated Services Networks (ISN), and an Associate Director of the E-Business Technology Institute at the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Kou is a Laureate of 2004 Friendship Award of China, the most prestige award and the highest honor from Chinese National Government to recognize an international expert. He has over 12 years of industry experience in IBM and Siemens in North America. Dr. Kou was elected as a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences in 1992. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE.
