Set during the struggle for Irish independence, the story follows the evolution of four young people; Henry and Grace from England, and Kathleen and Sean from Ireland, as they navigate World War One and the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin, with the guidance of Kathleen's Quaker father, John, and Bridgit, a modern mentor of the ancient Celtic tradition of Anamcara, soul friendship.
That inspiration was nourished into a living practice by years of engagement with the Sacred Art of Living Community near my home in Oregon. Through that engagement the Anamcara Tradition came alive.
I spent 39 years as a family practice, naturopathic physician in Eugene, Oregon. I've helped to raise six amazing children and am now blessed with four wonderful grandchilren.
I see my "coming home" to the Anamcara Tradition as the culmination of a life-long exploration of many spiritual traditions (I respect them all) and of over fifty years of practicing meditation.
Retirement has allowed me to pursue writing. I do so not only because of the joy it brings me, but also, now that I'm in my twilght years, to try to share whatever wisdom I've gleaned that I hope might help younger generations to care for this utterly beautiful and deeply threatened world we call home.
I began this story while at a writer's workshop with my beloved wife on Inish Mor, off the west coast of Ireland. I'm not Irish, a historian, or a scholar, so I ask forgiveness for any historical and/or cultural faux pas I may have made from those readers who know more. That said, I hope you enjoy my story. May it be for the Good.
