Dr. S. Ramachandran is a Professor in Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad. He received advanced degrees in Physics from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara and PRL, Ahmedabad in 1990 and 1996 respectively. He was a Visiting Research Staff Member in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program, Princeton University during 1997-1999. He has worked extensively on the measurements of aerosol properties using state-of-the-art techniques as well as modeling their impacts on radiation budget, atmospheric temperature and climate using radiative transfer and general circulation/global climate models. His principal research interests are measurements and modeling of aerosols in the troposphere and lower stratosphere, and their radiative impacts. His current research projects address aerosol composition, aerosol-cloud interactions, and the role of black carbon aerosol in climate. Dr. Ramachandran was involved in the first of its kind observations of aerosol- and associated radiative forcing over the Indian Ocean during the Indian Ocean Experiment. . He is an author of the 2007 climate science assessment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He is a reviewer and an author on the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion. He was a Member of the International Radiation Commission (2001-2008). He was a Senior Fellow at the NASA Ames Research Center, California during 2008, and 2011-12 under the NASA Postdoctoral Program (administered earlier by the National Research Council (NRC)). He is a recipient of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Young Scientist Award (1997), global change SysTem for Analysis, Research and Training (START) Young Scientist Award (2002), START Visiting Scientist Award (2004), and the NASA Group Achievement Award (2009). His published research includes over 70 papers in refereed international journals. The author has a vast
