The Faroe Islands are a group of islands in the northern Atlantic that are politically part of Denmark. It is of volcanic origin, the highest mountain is 882 m high. The climate is maritime, humid and so changeable that the Faroe Islands have been nicknamed the 'Islands of Maybe'. The bird life is dominated by the sea birds. Here is probably the world's largest colony of the European Storm Petrel.
