Boston attorney Zack Endeavor seems set for life. He has a beautiful heiress as his fiancé and a blossoming new law practice in the growing prosperity of the city. Everything holds promise for him amidst the affluent times known as 'the Gilded Age'.
It all changes when a mysterious armed visitor comes calling with reminders of his time in the hellhole of Libby Prison. They were harsh experiences that Zack would rather forget about but his caller urges him on a trip that compels him down the dark road of those memories.
Forced to leave the gentile comforts of Boston he is bound across country to the harsher environs of the wild frontier. There, only in an impregnable redoubt set in the heart of Texas cow-country will Zack find any resolution.
But it's a risky expedition and even the help of a tough gunman and his two partners will not keep the dangers at bay. Every step of his journey Zack faces murderous menace from an unseen enemy. It is an enemy so secret and powerful that it threatens to overthrow the pillars of government and strike at the very heart of democracy.
Zack must rediscover old skills and resurrect the hardest repressed part of his soul if he is to survive and save the woman he loves.
And that's how it started out for me. I've illustrated more Western book covers than I care to mention and been doing it for a long time. No hardship, I hasten to add, I love the genre and have since a kid, although originally I made my name painting the cover art for other people, now at least, I manage to create covers for my own books.
A long-term closet writer, only comparatively recently, with a family grown and the availability of self-publishing have I managed to be able to write and get my stories out there.
As I did when illustrating, research counts a lot and has inspired many of my Westerns and Thrillers to have a basis in historical fact or at least weave their tale around the seeds of factual content.
Having such a visual background, mostly it's a matter of describing the pictures I see in my head and translating them to the written page. I guess that's why one of my early four-star reviewers described the book like a 'Western movie, fast paced and full of action.'
I enjoy writing them; I hope folks enjoy reading the results.
