The single chapters are preceded by short introductions, which deal with the structure of each writing as well as the main characters, especially Jesus, the group of the disciples and the disciples which are set apart: Mary and Judas. The relations between these characters are elucidated in the context of the Gnostic theology of each writing and its relation to the "apostolic" Church.
