The book immerses us in the atmosphere of Alma-Ata of the 80s with its cozy streets, famous cafes and restaurants. Passion for boxing and horse racing, fishing and gathering in the cafe are held against the background of love experiences and personal drama of the novel's characters. "Children of December" is a kind of literary requiem for Kazakh youth, who with their bare hands opposed the soldiers with demining shovels in the tragic days of December 1986. The novel touches on such eternal questions as the people and power, faith and unbelief, patriotism and nationalism, careerism and disinterested service. A. Satybaldin develops the best traditions of European and Russian classical literature.
