Abbas Poya breaks from the »narrative perspective«: On the basis of four current and important Iranian writers - Al-e Ahmad, Shari'ati, Sorush, and Malekyan - he examines the transformation process in today's Islamic intellectual discourses in the light of global dominant post-colonial conditions and shows that the thought processes are shaped by so-called Islamic/oriental ideas as well as by supposed secular/western ideas.

Abbas Poya ist Professor für Reformdiskurse im gegenwärtigen Islam am Department Islamisch-Religiöse Studien (DIRS) der Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). Davor leitete er die Nachwuchsforschergruppe Norm, Normativität und Normenwandel an der FAU und lehrte bereits an den Universitäten Hamburg, Freiburg und Zürich. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind religiös-intellektuelle Diskurse im Islam, Islamisches Recht, Religionstheologie, Islam und Menschenrechte, Toleranz, Gerechtigkeit und moderne Geschichte Afghanistans.
