Shams al-Din al-Dhahabi (673 AH - 748 AH / 1274 AD - 1348 AD) is a hadith scholar and imam and hafiz. He combined two qualities that were only found in the few exceptional people in our history. He combined, in addition to a broad knowledge of Islamic history, events and men, an extensive knowledge of the rules of wounding and modification for men, so he alone was a stand-alone school. Imam Al-Dhahabi is one of the scholars who entered the field of history through the chapter of the Prophet's hadith and its sciences, and this was evident in his great care for biographies, which became the basis of many of his books and the focus of his historical thinking. It was said that Imam Al-Dhahabi was called Al-Dhahabi because he used to weigh men as a jeweler weighs gold.

He heard about Damascus, Egypt, Baalbek, and Alexandria. A large crowd heard from him, and he was very inclined to the opinion of the Hanbalis, and he wrote books on hadith and the names of men. He read the Qur'an, and read it with narrations, and his historical writings alone amounted to about two hundred books, some of which were huge volumes.
