Although he was born in Detroit, Michigan, the Army brought the Yorks family to Tacoma, Washington in Izaic's younger years. Until a move to Hillsborough, North Carolina, he'd considered the Pacific Northwest his one and only home. His story in the sport of running has a different beginning than most of his colleagues as he didn't participate in athletics until high school, often choosing theater and musical interests over sports. It was not until he watched the 2008 Olympics with his physically disabled sister that he decided to pursue track-eventually leading to a career as a professional athlete.
