Factors affecting effectiveness of on-board training. A study based on the company staff of Nestle PLC (PDF)

Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Economics - Job market economics, grade: A+, , course: MBA, language: English, abstract: Nestle Lanka PLC has identified the need for continuous and effective on-board training of manufacturing and administrative staff in areas such as customer care, operational and technical aspects, in order to develop a competitive edge over the competitors in delivering quality service to the customers, while retaining and motivating the key employees. Therefore, this study is to identify the factors affecting the effectiveness of on-board training and recommend suitable strategies to the company to overwhelmed on-board training problems, which leads to enhancing the workforce effectiveness as well as the profitability for Nestle Lanka PLC in the future.

This research is discussed the available literature relating to the effectiveness of on-board training on job performance and job development of the employees. Out of all the company staff of Nestle PLC in Sri Lanka, sample sizes of 100 company staff were selected using simple random sampling method based on researcher’s judgment. The self-administered, structured questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents in this study. The data analysis is included the univariate analysis, which contains demographics factor analysis, frequency analysis for individual questions, the analysis of Cronbach’s alpha reliability of the factors and descriptive statistical analysis for the factors. The bivariate analysis includes the correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis for hypotheses testing. The researcher recommends that employee with some kind of problem should feel comfortable in reaching his/her supervisor to inform the matters and the entire internal training procedure and the corrective actions should be taken with a minimum wastage of time. Appropriate selection, training and staff development programs should be encouraged. Each employee’s skills, knowledge and abilities should be matched as much as possible to the main factors that can be affecting to the on-board training actions in Nestle PLC. Also a HR training consultant should be appointed, attached to the human resource department for employees, those who are taking on-board training to seek advice in any job training related problems.
