Produktinformationen zu „Metal Ions in Biological Systems (PDF)“
Offering an authoritative and timely account by twenty-nine internationally recognized experts, Metal Ions in Biological Systems: Metal Complexes in Tumor Diagnosis and as Anticancer Agents is devoted solely to the vital research area concerning metal complexes in cancer diagnosis and therapy. In fourteen stimulating chapters, the book focuses on diagnostic tools such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), luminescent probes, and radiopharmaceuticals, including radiometallo-labeled peptides and assesses the role of metal ions, especially iron, in the action of antibiotics employed in anticancer chemotherapy.
Autoren-Porträt
Astrid Sigel has studied languages and is an editor of the Metal Ions in Biological Systems series since Volume 11. Together with Hans G. Seiler, Astrid and Helmut Sigel have also edited the Handbook on Toxicity of Inorganic Compounds (1988) and the Handbook on Metals in Clinical and Analytical Chemistry (1994), and together with Ivano Bertini the Handbook on Metalloproteins (2001) (all titles, Marcel Dekker, Inc.).Helmut Sigel is Emeritus Professor (2003) of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Basel, Switzerland, where he has been Dozent (1967) and ao Professor (1978) previously. He spent the academic year 1968-1969 in the United States at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY). He serves on various editorial boards of international journals, is a member of several chemical societies, is involved in European research networks and has lectured worldwide. Among the honors he received are the P Ray Award (Indian Chemical Society, of which he is also an Honorary Fellow), the Werner Award (Swiss Chemical Society), a Doctor of Science honoris causa degree (Kalyani University, India), several Endowed Lectureships, and appointments as Visiting Professor, including at Zhongshan (Sun Yatsen) University in Guangzhou, China (1992-2000). He was also named Protagonist in Chemistry (2002) by Inorganica Chimica Acta (issue 339 ). Professor Sigel's research interests focus on the stability, structure, and reactivity of simple and mixed ligand metal ion complexes of nucleotides, coenzymes, amino acids, peptides, and other ligands of biological relevance. His work also deals with the catalase- and peroxidase-like activity of transition metal ion complexes, and he has published over 300 articles on these and related subjects.
