This book provides a comprehensive overview of photocatalytic water splitting theory and technology with a focus on advances in photocatalyst materials. It examines how to improve the performance of photocatalysts in terms of both catalytic activity and stability as well as how to reduce material costs. It also discusses material synthesis, focusing on control of the particle size, morphology, orientation, and aspect ratio as related to the cost-effectiveness of large-scale material and device manufacturing for water splitting.
Dr. Ru-Shi Liu is currently a Professor at the Department of Chemistry, National Taiwan University. He received his B.Sc in Chemistry from Shoochow University (Taiwan) in 1981, M.Sc in nuclear science from the National Tsing Hua University (Taiwan) in 1983, respectively. From 1983 to 1985, He worked at the Materials Research Laboratories, the Industrial Technology Research Institute (Taiwan). He obtained two Ph.D. degrees in chemistry - one from National Tsing Hua University in 1990 and the other from the University of Cambridge in 1992, separately. He was an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry of National Taiwan University from 1995 to 1999 before he was promoted to a full professor in 1999. He also serves as an adjunct Pearl Chair professor at National Taipei University of Technology since August 2014. His research is focused on the field of
Dr. Jiujun Zhang received his B.Sc, and M.Sc from Peking University in 1982 and 1985, and his Ph.D. in Electrochemistry from Wuhan University in 1988, respectively. He is now a Principal Research Officer and Core Competency Leader at the National Research Council of Canada Energy, Mining & Environment Portfolio (NRC-EME). Dr. Zhang holds several adjunct professorships, including one at the University of Waterloo and one at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Zhang is author or co-author of more than 400 publications with more than 20000 citation (h-index: 62; i10-index: 142), including 230 peer-reviewed journal papers, 18 books, 41 book chapters and granted 16 US/European/Canada patents. His research is mainly based on electrochemical energy storage and conversion. Dr. Zhang has been elected as the Fellow of the Electrochemical Society of Electrochemistry (FISE), Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada (FEIC) and the Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering (FCAE).
