Documenting this year, Smith does not shy away from surreal descriptions and sometimes gloomy colors and shades. However, in this "autobiography of one year" there was a place for both poetry and humor, and even a mystical detective story that will begin near the Dream Inn hotel on a mysterious beach littered with chocolate bar wrappers with a variety of completely crazy names. "Devotion" is dedicated to Patti Smith's reflections on the phenomenon of inspiration. What it is? How does it appear? Is it possible to accelerate or, on the contrary, delay its arrival? What place does it occupy in our lives? In search of answers to these questions, Smith wanders around Paris, studies the monument to Voltaire in Place Honoré Champion, looks into the cemetery in an attempt to find the grave of Paul Valery and visits Catherine, daughter of Albert Camus, in the house that the writer bought with money from the Nobel Prize.
