Maura O'Donnell, an Irish orphan, was brought to the United States in 1960 by her Aunt Kate. She spent two years at an orphanage after the death of her parents and her younger brother. Maura loved her aunt and her death devastated her.
Grief is what is preventing Maura, a psychologist, from visiting the cottage she spent many a golden summer in, with her Aunt Kate. When she finally visits it two years later, she finds the place neglected. She vows to restore it to its former glory. There she meets Seán Kennedy, the man she fell in love with as a young girl. He is a wealthy businessman and wants to buy her cottage and build a motel there. She is furious. How could he want to violate the pristine beauty of the place with a motel?
She begins to trust him as he forgoes the idea. Once more she opens her heart to him. He regals her with tales of what he did before they met. His visit to the Great Blasket Island, which he describes as a symphony of the soul. They become engaged.
Their newfound happiness is shattered by horrific threats on her life. Maura, must discover the enemy or lose everyone and everything she loves.
