Been watching too much "reality" TV lately? Been trying to ignore the reality of what's saturating the news every day? Can't do nuthin' about the weather, and sure can't do nuthin' about politics, right!? How's that working out for you?
Well, take it from this old Alaskan "sourdough". We only have to look to our history to see that there's hope for the future. Yes, there's been failure, but it's all of those hard won personal and political successes that have made the difference, and given us the great blessings we have today.
Come along with the author and take a journey through one average American family's history and through a little of our great nation's history. Along with so many good times, there will necessarily be hard times and tragedy. Every family and nation will at some point face tragedy, grief and difficult times. But then, it's all about what we do next, isn't it?
Know that when you're finished reading, you will write the next chapter for this book and your own. Nothing's written in the stars and nothing is dictated by God. It's all in what we choose to do next. To see good happen for ourselves, our children and our nation - we have to make it happen. This old sourdough surely has a few ideas worthy of your consideration in the endeavor to make good happen.
Met my wife, Diane, in Nebraska, moved to Oregon for two years and then to Alaska in 1982. Raised two sons and built our home in Fairbanks. Built a remote cabin with my sons the summers of '99 and 2000. Our oldest son died in a snowboarding accident in December of 2000. Our younger son and his wife now live in Fairbanks. Their two children, our two grandchildren, are now our greatest joy.
It is for my son and these grandchildren, and perhaps for all young parents out there, that I have written this book. I have never before published anything, and hope that this writing can be useful to the reader during times of challenge and dramatic change.
