"With the possible exception of Shevchenko's poems and Gogol's Ukrainian novels, our literature has not yet known such a Ukrainian book as "The Elder Boyarin". If Ukraine can be put into words, it is the novel Osmachchyna. If the word can convey the smell of Ukraine, then this book is filled with all the fragrance of Ukraine. If it is possible to build a homeland-state in a word, then it is built, let's see the living eyewitnesses as well", - this is how professor of Harvard and Columbia universities Yuriy Shevelyov assessed Osmachka's work.
