Kenneth Bond was born in 1931 in Mesa, Arizona, in the midst of the Depression. He was the third of five children. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school and served during the Korean War. He studied to be a teacher of business at Arizona State College. In 1958 he married Genevra Nelson, and they had three children. He taught school for a while and later entered the insurance business.
