• The Poof! Academy, a collection of 40-plus fairy tales, 10 of them about a little school for witches, who are forever up to magical mischief. This 2-volume middle reader also features the common letter patterns.



• The Improbable Voyage of the Poof! Academy, a novel about the little witches' journey to magical realms they've never dreamed of before. Available soon.



• Picture book, Sir Little Fool and the Skeptical Princess, about a little princess who doesn't believe in fairy tales, only to get caught up in one. You can read her story on my website eagerreaderpress.com.



• Prince Beauregard and the Beast Baby, a fairy tale Maurice Sendak extolled, also available to read on my website. "Prince Beauregard is a wonder!" he wrote me.



• Somebody Grab That Dog and Tired of Trying, stories kids can make into little books on the Activities Page of my website.



I was born in Minnesota and spent my early childhood in the Twin Cities, where my father had grown up—and where the drama of the seasons left an indelible impression on me. In my early teens, my mother moved my brother and me to Berkeley, California—her hometown—tumultuous years I've written about in Callie's Ragbag, a memoir in blogs that you can also read on my website.
