Faced with dwindling prospects and with nothing to lose, he leaves for another land, in search of a new beginning.
The Exodus is a short story that follows a man's journey across a landscape vastly different from today. Along the way he reflects on a way of life once taken for granted, contrasting it with the stark reality he sees everywhere. Even so, life goes on and people are forced to adapt to the harsh circumstances with whatever resources are at hand. Not all is bleak, for there is also beauty amidst the devastation as nature reclaims the environment and a deeper connection to the land is regained.
For anyone concerned with how our excessive modern lifestyle is wrecking the Earth and threatening the survival of humanity, this piece of speculative fiction paints a darkly vivid picture of what may come to pass in the not too distant future.
