Ο Ιλδεφόνσο Φαλκόνες δε Σιέρρα γεννήθηκε το 1959 στη Βαρκελόνη, όπου και εργάζεται ως δικηγόρος.Η "Παναγιά της θάλασσας" είναι το πρώτο του βιβλίο, στο οποίο αφιέρωσε τέσσερα χρόνια έρευνας όπου κυκλοφόρησε το 2006 και μεταφράστηκε σε περισσότερες από 40 γλώσσες και απέσπασε σημαντικά βραβεία. Ακολούθησε το "Χέρι της Φάτιμα" το 2009, το οποίο επιβεβαίωσε τον Φαλκόνες ως τον πιο πολυδιαβασμένο Ισπανό συγγραφέα σήμερα.
