In The Rose Garden Eva’s film star sister dies and Eva leaves California and goes to Cornwall where they spent their childhood holidays to scatter her ashes.
She visits and stays with friends she has not seen for 20 years. She quickly fits in with their lives and starts to get involved in their new project (opening a tea room). Without explaining why, Eva finds herself travelling back in time where she starts to fall in love with Daniel Butler. Daniel is also suffering the loss of his beloved wife Ann and they both provide each other with something they are missing. The story goes back and forth between the past and present which interrupts the romance but this is less disturbing than it could be because of the subplots and wanting to know how they work out.
This book is a lovely romantic, historical novel. It is a gentle and though provoking book which I found hard to put down.
