As he found himself an unwillingly guinea pig in a lab of sorts not to life's trials and tribulations, but to events he didn't have any semblance of control, but regardless, he managed the best way he knew how. Where in one tiny corner of his sick mind, not yet corrupted, his plight seemed a lot more easier to handle, as he clung to hope which resided within his own insanity's reason.
