As they fall in in with a regiment of gangsters, brawlers, and "b'hoys," Tobey and Gorry must battle to survive their own rowdy comrades-and, at times, each other-before they even face the Confederates. In the midst of the Peninsula Campaign of 1862, their friendship blossoms into something else entirely. Can these two misfits find love and beauty amid the ugliness of war, or will their paths lead only to battle scars and body lice?

As an associate editor for Irish in the American Civil War, he has written numerous articles about immigrant experiences in the Civil War, as well as a book of poetry, JERUSALEM PLANK ROAD.
