Zehn stilbildende Alben des Latin Jazz Mambo, Cha Cha Cha und Rhumba aus New York und Kuba. Mit legendären Musikern wie Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Charlie Parker, Machito, Cal Tjader, Herbie Mann, Bebo Valdés und vielen mehr. Im Niemandsland zwischen den eleganten Nachtclubs in Havanna, lange vor Che Guevara und Fidel Castro, und den Jazzclubs der 52nd Street in New York wurde schon in den 40er Jahren die Saat dessen gesät, was wir heute als Latin Jazz bezeichnen. Vielleicht war es unvermeidbar, jedenfalls war es unglaublich als die afro-kubanischen Rhythmen der Karibikinsel auf die modernen Jazz-Eskapaden von Bebop-Innovatoren wie Charlie Parker oder Dizzy Gillespie trafen. Doch aus dem anfänglichern Experiment entwickelte sich schnell ein eigenständiges Genre mit eigenen Stars und Stilbildnern. Die zehn Alben der Original Album Collection Latin Jazz präsentieren auf 10 CDs die wichtigsten Interpreten dieser Musik und ihre schönsten Alben. Von Dizzy Gillespies Afro aus dem Jahr 1954 bis zu Bebo Valdés Cuban Dance Party von 1959. Dazwischen finden sich lateinamerikanische Legenden wie Chico OFarrill, Machito, Mongo Santamaria, Perez Prado und Tito Puente neben nordamerikanischen Jazzhelden wie Charlie Parker, Woody Herman oder Herbie Mann. Die Energie und die starke Emotionalität dieser Musik ist nach wie vor ungebrochen und ansteckender denn je.
