Although the solution of Partial Differential Equations by numerical methods is the standard practice in industries, analytical methods are still important for the critical assessment of results derived from advanced computer simulations and the improvement of the underlying numerical techniques. Literature devoted to analytical methods, however, often focuses on theoretical and mathematical aspects and is therefore useless to most engineers. Analytical Methods for Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow Problems addresses engineers and engineering students. It describes useful analytical methods by applying them to real-world problems rather than solving the usual over-simplified classroom problems. The book demonstrates the applicability of analytical methods even for complex problems and guides the reader to a more intuitive understanding of approaches and solutions.

Autoren-Porträt von Bernhard Weigand
Bernhard Weigand ist Professor und leitet das Instituts für Thermodynamik der Luft- und Raumfahrt an der Universität Stuttgart. Er promovierte 1992 an der TU Darmstadt. Von 1992 bis 1999 arbeitete er bei der ABB Kraftwerke AG in Baden (Schweiz). Hier begleitete er verschiedene Positionen. So war er verantwortlich für die Grundlagenentwicklung der Programme für die Wärmeübertragung und die Kühlung für Gasturbinenschaufeln als auch für die Kühlungsauslegung aller neuen Gasturbinenschaufeln. Parallel zu seiner Arbeit in der Industrie habilitierte er sich an der TU Darmstadt in 1997 auf dem Gebiet der Thermodynamik. Seit April 1999 wechselte er an die Universität Stuttgart, wo er von 2002-2006 Dekan der Fakultät Luft- und Raumfahrttechnik und Geodäsie war. Von 2006 - 2009 begleitete er die Position des Prorektors für Struktur an der Universität Stuttgart.
