Professor Per-Henrik Groop is the Head of the Department of Diabetes Genetics at Folkhälsan Research Center in Helsinki, Finland, and Deputy Chief Physician within the Department of Medicine at Helsinki University Central Hospital. His main research focus is the pathogenesis of complications in diabetes, with particular emphasis on diabetic nephropathy. Professor Groop is currently Associate Editor of Kidney International and International Diabetes Monitor, and he has served as Associate Editor of Diabetologia. He is President of the European Diabetic Nephropathy Study Group. In 2009, Professor Groop was awarded the prestigious Castelli Pedroli Prize in 2009 at the EASD Annual Meeting.
