Wodianka answers the question of the way in which treatments of the Middle Ages are determined by internal medial, chronological or national structures and the extent to which in this a part is played by differing emphases on memory as myth or history. The main focus is on France and Italy, but account is also taken of the German and English-speaking worlds.
