Many children with medical conditions fail to improve despite physicians' best efforts. Sometimes, we ascribe this failure to lack of adherence to therapy or to the severity of the condition. What we often fail to appreciate, however is that sometimes the lack of improvement can be explained by the patients' psychological states. The first section of Functional Symptoms in Pediatric Disease: A Clinical Guid e teaches children's health care providers to recognize functional symptoms that can complicate organic disease as well as symptoms that are believed to be purely functional in origin. Autoren-Porträt
Dr. Anbar is a professor of pediatrics and director of the Pediatric Pulmonary and Cystic Fibrosis Center at the SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y. His pediatric pulmonology fellowship training was supported, in part, by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. His research interests include new therapies for CF, asthma epidemiology and hypnotherapy to treat respiratory disease. He has published several articles and abstracts in medical journals regarding use of hypnosis by patients with CF for treatment of anxiety and discomforts associated with the disease and related medical procedures.
